Last week, Facebook announced the upcoming launch of its new Facebook Creator app, designed to assist social media influencers in creating content and reaching a bigger following.
It’s Zuck and team’s latest effort to lure creators away from YouTube and onto their own increasingly video-centric platform.
The app itself isn’t that big of a deal
FB already has page management apps for community builders and celebrities — and as The Verge writes, this latest release just makes these specialized features available to everyone.
The app allows creators to customize their videos with intros, outros, and “interactive stickers,” makes live broadcasting easier, and also provides them with more detailed analytics and a unified messages inbox across all their pages.
The real story here: FB’s battle with YouTube
It’s estimated that by 2021, video will make up 80% of all consumer-based traffic on the internet — and videos will make up 41% of all online advertising spending.
So, it’s no surprise that FB is going hard after YouTube’s ardent community of vloggers and influencers. This tool is the latest in their efforts to build a more enticing platform for them.
