Learning faster

30.08.2020

Welcome Back!

In today’s post, I will be talking about the FAST method, which is very helpful in learning things very quickly.

A.)F stands for Forget:

  1. Forget what you already know about the subject. A lot of people don’t learn faster because they feel like they already know the information. But your mind is like a parachute; it only works when it’s open.
  2. The key to focusing on a task is to remove or forget the potential distractions around you.
  3. Also, forget your limitations like - you can’t learn/read quickly or your memory isn’t good. You won’t be able to do things freely. This limits your mind.

B.) A stands for Active:

  1. We are taught to learn passively. Learning passively means learning quietly and being lectured.
  2. This is not the ideal way to learn anything. You learn by creating information and being active in the process.
  3. Learning is NOT a spectator sport. You should learn actively. You can be active in learning by - Asking Questions and Taking notes.

C.) S stands for State:

  1. Information combined with emotion becomes a long-term memory. All learning is state-dependent. Choose states of joy, fascination, and curiosity.
  2. When you are bored, you are not able to retain information. If you are happy and confident, you will be able to retain information more easily and by making less efforts.
  3. You can improve your state by-Changing your posture or breathing, Sit or stand like you are fully energized, Thinking about how you will benefit from your information.

D.) T stands for Teach:

  1. If you want to make your learning curve less steep, learn with the intention of teaching it to someone else.
  2. If you learn with the intention of teaching it to someone else, you will pay close attention to the topic you are learning. You will be able to ask better questions. You will also be able to make more detailed notes.
  3. When you teach something, you will be able to learn it twice. You will also learn to speak better publicly. This will also improve your presentation and teaching skills.

Also, do not forget to revise and review that you have done. This will help you in remembering things easily and you can retain the information for years.

Thought of The Day:

“Learning is not attained by chance, it must be sought for with ardour and attended to with diligence.”
